The purpose of the project is to work collaboratively across the North West Locality to;
- Improve the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people
- Improve the resilience of children and young people
- And to increase the capacity of parents and carers in supporting the emotional needs of their children and young people.
The support Stepping Stones offers takes place at school, home or within the local community with the main focus on promoting the child’s mental health and emotional wellbeing. Our practitioners work closely with the children, families and other relevant professionals to create a support plan that is centred around the needs of the young person. This might include an offer of play therapy, targeted one-to-one sessions or taking part in Equine Assisted Learning with Equilearn.
We currently work with children from 12 primary schools and 3 high schools across the North West locality. As the project develops we hope to be able to start delivering some group work to provide more early intervention support. Group work sessions would aim to promote positive relationships, support transitions to secondary school and increase self-esteem, confidence and resilience.
