Despite the often frequent rain showers our outings over summer were a great success. Local trips included outings to Victoria park, Inverleith park, the Botanics and Lauriston castle, where we delivered a range of activities. Families enjoyed taking part in a sports day, a silent disco and arts and crafts. There were also trips to swimming and the Scottish Assault Course for children.

On all of our outings families were provided with lunch and support with travel arrangements. Many of our families are lone parent households and can lack the confidence to go on family outings, so support from the staff team is essential. Parents who attended fed back that they were glad they had came along, and that they felt supported to take part and that they had help with their children when they needed it.

We also supported families to attend a variety of Fringe shows in the City centre, these included; Adventure Bubble Show, The Alphabet of Awesome Science, Monski Mouse’s Baby Cabaret, James and the Giant Peach and Dive. We were also delighted to be supported by the Fringe to host our own Fringe fun day at Granton Parish Church. With funding provided by the Fringe we were able to offer a great opportunity to children and parents to access activities within their own community. We were delighted to have Pizza Geeks come and cook amazing pizzas for all the families, followed by desert from Lucas ice-cream. Children we’re able to enjoy face painting, circus skills, a show for under 5s, Mini Melodies, Art Buds, close up magic and balloon modelling throughout the event.
