Circle of Security Parenting

This June, we wrapped up our first Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) group at Stepping Stones—a supportive, reflective space for parents to explore their relationships with their children and themselves. Facilitated by Family Wellbeing Practitioner Anna in partnership with Melanie from PAIRS (Parents and Infants Relationship Service), the course offered a warm, non-judgemental environment for parents to reflect and learn.

COSP is a relationship-based parenting program built around the idea that it’s never too late to strengthen the bond between parent and child. At the heart of the course is “the circle”—a simple but powerful tool that helps parents understand their child’s emotional needs and their own role in providing both a secure base for exploration and a safe haven for comfort.
“The group helped me be a stronger and wiser parent and gave me a framework about how to repair after a rupture with my child. It gave me hope that things might not be okay now, but they can get better over time—and that’s okay.”
The course gently encourages self-compassion, moving away from blame and perfectionism. Parents were invited to reflect on their own patterns, experiences, and “shark music”—those emotional echoes from the past that can be triggered in the present. Through this, many found the group a safe space to reflect on their own, often difficult childhood experiences and gain confidence to make different choices with their children.
“The course has given me a lot of knowledge and strength to keep going and make sure my children’s cup is full—but also, importantly, to fill my own cup. I am ‘good enough’. Thank you for helping me grow and making me feel important again.”
“A safe space and a lovely, flowing course that gives you structure and a language in how to be a parent. I have personally really appreciated doing this course while my daughter was looked after.”
It has been a privilege to hold this space and witness the courage, insight, and mutual support that grew within the group. As COSP teaches, parenting is not about getting it right all the time—it’s about showing up, reflecting, and repairing when needed. We’re proud of every parent who took the course with us and look forward to offering more groups in the future.
