New Walking Group

Our Family Wellbeing Practitioners identified a need within their intensive parent support service: a place for mums over 25 to meet, socialise, and create new community bonds. Many of the parents we work with over 25 are less interested in or unable to attend the more formal arts and crafts, employability workshops, and young parent groups – but they still want the opportunity to meet other parents.

The Practitioners spoke to the mums about the type of group they’d be more likely to attend, and based on their feedback, designed the “Chomp & Chatter” Walking Group. The group will meet once per week for five weeks over the summer holidays, starting in mid-July, and mums can attend with or without their children. The group will meet and go for a walk to a location of their choice and then have a coffee and a cake – or, if it’s raining, just have cake!

The aim is to offer the parents a time to connect with other mums of their own age, access emotional support through Stepping Stones, and, if they so choose, continue meeting on their own initiative after the group ends.

The team secured a small grant via the University of Edinburgh’s local community fund to sponsor the snacks and get our mums out and about this summer. Thank you to the University for their support!
