Group Work for Parents
Young Parents
We recognise the important role that group work can play in reducing isolation and loneliness. We create a supportive environment that promotes self-care and a feeling of inclusion within the community.
Our young parents’ groups run Monday to Thursday and offer a space for young parents to connect with their peers, learn new skills and explore their aspirations for the future.
Group work sessions are tailored to the needs and interests of the parents that attend, determined through individual and group discussions. Examples of topics we have covered in the past include; Mental Health First Aid, peer mentor training, comedy writing, creative activities, health and wellbeing and SQA qualifications.
Taking part in our group work programme provides young parents the opportunity to explore their goals and aspirations as a young person while they navigate the challenges of parenthood. Parents are supported to catalogue their achievements and consider how these might inform their future choices and next steps.
Employability and Wellbeing
Parents can face a variety of challenges when it comes to furthering their education and pursuing employment. Our employability programme focuses on stage one to three of the employability pipeline. Within this we focus on confidence building, self-care, and wellbeing, providing learning opportunities to nurture aspirations and develop essential soft skills.
We believe that employability goes beyond securing a job; it involves finding meaningful employment that not only provides an income but also resonates with an individual’s values and interests. Finding a role that provides a sense of purpose and supports personal growth will enable parents to feel a sense of satisfaction and overall well-being for them and their families.
Our employability groups offer a space for parents to explore their aspirations and goals, evaluate their skills and experience and set goals for their future learning. The course content is then tailored to cater to the specific needs of the participants. We actively support parents to make connections with agencies which support them to progress into further education, volunteering and employment opportunities.
