Granton Gardens – The families enjoyed 3 summer sessions in the garden. Emily from Edinburgh and Lothians Greenspace Trust kindly came along to share a story, Superworm, with us, whilst updating families about the latest re-generation plans for West Pilton Park. After our story the group took part in a bug hunt, exploring all the bugs and plants the garden has to offer. Next up we had some “fun in the sun” activities, with sand, bubbles and inflatables, the sun shone and the children had a great time exploring alongside their parents. Our last garden session nature themed and the families took part in some rock painting and printing.
Keeping it local – Families can lack the confidence to get out and about with their children over the summer sometimes, so exploring local green spaces is a great way to get families together and enjoy some time outside. We visited a range of locations, showing families what is available for free on their doorstop. This included visits to Lauriston Castle, The Royal Botanical Gardens, Inverleith Park and the museum.
We also squeezed in a big family trip, something the older and younger children could all enjoy together, as we headed to East Links farm. The families enjoyed exploring the park, visiting the different animals and making the most of the go-karts, train and trampolines.
Our annual summer fun day was based around celebrating our 40th anniversary with families past and present. Party vibes were provided by Little Laughs and toddler karaoke was a particular highlight. Finally we finished up our summer by supporting families to make the most of the Edinburgh Fringe. The sun was on our side for the last few days, and the families got to enjoy a few shows alongside exploring all the Fringe has to offer.
