The first week of the holidays saw us heading along to the Equilearn yard to have a summer session there. With the children enjoying tending to the horses and ponies and taking part in several activities and crafts. Finishing off with having the opportunity to each ride a horse. Some of the children never having ridden a horse before and really facing their fears, a big well done to those stepping on for the first time.
The following week, we partnered up with Emily from Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, taking part in a natural arts session at West Pilton neighbourhood centre. The children learned a little about some of the work that is going on in the park, and all the new things they can expect to see, they then collected items to do a cyanotype, which is a photographic process using UV light to create prints of objects on paper or material, the group had lunch and then did some clay modelling, they then finished off by sitting in the sunshine making dream catchers, swords and wands from sticks and wool. Lots of creativity on show today.
Next up saw some of the group travel to Port Edgar marina to work alongside On the water Edinburgh, the children learned about water safety and then got to try out sailing in the firth of forth in pairs, learning how to guide the boats and manage changes in direction, thankfully nobody ended up sinking. They then enjoyed some paddle boarding to finish off their day, and extra special once in a lifetime experience as they were joined by a dolphin swimming alongside them.
Towards the end of July we went to Funparx Edinburgh. Lots of fun had running between, the soft play, retro arcades, the ninja zone and the particular favourite, the sir park with inflatable slides.
As we approached the end of summer break, and our time with some of the children coming to an end as they move on in their school journey to S1. We had 2 more activities planned.
We first joined the larger stepping stones group on a big trip to east links farm. Adventure golf, train rides, go karts and much more. So much fun for all.
Our last trip of the summer and final activity for this group was a fringe day out. The children enjoyed going to Doktor Kaboom and the wheel of science!
A fun, exciting and informative show full of science and experiments and the occasional explosion. Always a favourite.
